Special Easter Activity in Arusha | |
Since the transmitter was stolen in
Arusha, January 11th this year, many people keep on
calling the studio. They want to know, what has happened
to their favourite station. To tell them what has
happened and to invite them for a special fund raising
service on April 14th (for a new transmitter), we decided
to activate the transmitter again on Easter Sunday. So we went there
on Good Friday, to solder again plugs to the cable ends
going to the antenna next to the transmitter hut.
Unfortunately we had to discover, that the cable bringing
electricity up there was not working any more. The ground
cable was destroyed some where up the hill, and a piece
of cable between trees did not pass electricity as well,
because it was pulled so hard, that the copper wires
inside were cut. We wanted to be back unto 3 in the
afternoon for the Good Friday service, but it took up to
9 at night to come back! On Easter Sunday was our big day now! We took off around 7 in the morning. When we arrived at the bottom of the transmitter hill, it started to rain. How should we come up there with the big load of the borrowed transmitter? Half way up we tried to carry that heavy box alone. But then two children helped us to carry that box. We were so glad, the rain stopped, and it had been sunny weather all day long. Also I am thankful, that we really found electricity up there, and everything was working well as planned. Thomas brought some coloured Easter eggs along. The children where glad to get real coloured Easter eggs! Anderson and Lucas were thinking about securing the plot up there. First the gras around the hut has to be slashed, and then we should plant a thorn hedge around that hut at a radius of 15 metres. during the rainy period now. We also thought about the expenses needed for watchmen to stay up here all day long. But at 6 o clock we had
to close down our station to be back on the car before it
had been fully dark. |
