A practical way of covering the Diocese with radio programmes:
Phase 1:
Getting a booster working on the Seguruma mountain close to Mlalo:
It would be great, if the diocese could follow up Tanesco power company to pull electricity up to the church next the Seguruma mountain (less than 1 km). At least 10 houses would like to be connected there, too. So to pull the line is a profitable investment!
The Lutheran Pastor of Mlalo could ask for a small plot up the Seguruma mountain, about 20x20 metres, for the booster hut and antennas.
Mzee Atizai Kaniki, who cares for the guest house in Mlalo, is aked to supervise to build the small transmitter hut up on the Seguruma mountain.
SYI-Moshi administration is following up the licence forms from TBC . Then asking TBC for a frequency assignment
SYI-Moshi technical staff is building the needed antennas (transmitter, receiver, telemetry)
SYI-Moshi will provide the cable to bring up the electricity from the church to the transmitter hut. Mzee Atizai Kaniki will be asked to assist to supervise the work pulling the cable up. (Distance Guest House- up to Seguruma peak is 1.94 km)
As soon as the transmitter has arrived from the U.S. (sponsored by Trans World Radio) it will be assembled, a bit modified for telemetry, and tested in Moshi. Then it will be installed at the transmitter site up the Seguruma mountain.
Phase 2:
Getting Lushoto booster and regional studio in Lushoto working as soon as equipment is available:
It would be most helpful, if the diocese could find ways to get a small plot on the rich between Lushoto and Mlalo, right next to the Post- and Telecommunication relay, right on the road, or ask for permission to use the PTT facilities as well. Hopefully there is electricity available there as well by then. This is the ideal place to put the booster for Lushoto, since at that place the booster from the Seguruma mountain can be heard strong as well.
SYI-Moshi administration will follow up the licensing and frequency assignment of this transmitter.
SYI-Moshi technical staff will build the antennas needed for this booster
SYI-Moshi technical staff will assist to put the transmitter into air on site.
SYI-Moshi technical staff will assist to get the regional studio working in Lushoto.
All produced programmes will be brought to Moshi by a bus shuttle or via the internet.
Phase 3:
As soon as air time restrictions suggest to split the network, to have special local programmes for each diocese for some hours daily, we need an Studio-to-Transmitter Link from Lushoto to the transmitter on the Seguruma mountain. This STL has to have a repeater (translator) on the rich between Lushoto and Mlalo right at the place where the Lushoto booster is planned .
If it should be cheaper to rent a temporally connected phone line to Seguruma mountain, this may be the better way to choose !
