LMC Roundtable to be held at Haydom
An international Roundtable meeting of the Lutheran Mission Cooperation (LMC) will be held at Haydom in Mbulu District, Northern Tanzania, from Sunday, October 12th through Thursday, October 16th, 2008.
LMC (Lutheran Mission Cooperation) is an instrument for coordinated interaction between the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) and its partners abroad. Twenty ELCT Dioceses, ELCT Common Work and 13 churches /mission agencies from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany and the USA have formed the LMC to coordinate their work in spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Tanzania as well as in the northern countries.
ELCT plans the work in Tanzania and these plans are, therefore, discussed jointly and a common budget is prepared during LMC Roundtable meetings held every year. At such meetings representatives from member organizations meet to discuss their common policies and practical matters.
LMC supports important programs such as Mission and Evangelism, Women's Work, training of pastors as well as supporting Christian Education programs. LMC also supports scholarships for capacity building and different projects to help the Church grow in different ways.
The Secretary of the LMC based in the Northern Tanzania town of Arusha, Mr. Lars Hofgren, said recently that the theme of this year's LMC Roundtable meeting is: "Partnership."
He said about 60 people including ELCT Bishops, mission directors and mission secretaries from the North will take part in the meeting at Hydom and it is the first time such an international Lutheran gathering takes place in the ELCT Mbulu Diocese.
Formed by the mission agencies and churches from the north and ELCT in the South; LMC relations date many years back through various organs and mechanisms including the Lutheran Coordination Service (LCS). For further information visit http://www.lmc.or.tz/
