Mallumbo Assumes Planning Leadership
Mr. Mallumbo. W. Mallumbo has assumed the position of Deputy General Secretary for Planning and Development of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT), with effect from October this year. He takes over from Mr. Geofrey Kalugendo who retired in April this year.
Mallumbo born on 25th July, 1959 at Tanangozi in Iringa Rural District, in South Western Highlands of Tanzania is holder of Masters Degree in Social Sciences with specialization in Community Development, acquired from the University of Kwazulu Natal (formerly University of Natal), in the Republic of South Africa (RSA) where he studied between 2003 and 2004.
He is also holder of Post graduate Diploma in Organizational Management from the Aarhus School of Architects in Denmark where he studied in 1997 and has an Advanced Diploma in Training and Community Development from University of Natal, RSA in 2002.
Before his new post in the Tanzanian Northern town of Arusha, Malumbo who has wide experience working in development within and outside the Church, was Zonal Sustainability Coordinator with the World Vision (Tanzania), between 1st May, 2006 and 30th September, 2008. He was the Projects and Planning Officer in the ELCT Iringa Diocese for 16 years from 1989 to 2005.
Prior to that, he attended an Officers? Training Course at Chang?ombe National Vocational Training Centre in Dar es Salaam in 1986 before he became the Academic Master and Relations Officer of Mafinga Lutheran Vocational Training Centre in Njombe and at Kidugala Lutheran Seminary; both in Iringa Region between 1982 and 1987.
He started a teaching career as Primary School teacher in Mufindi District between 1980 and 1981 after attending Korogwe Teachers Training College in Tanga Region from 1977 to 1978.
He had a brief stint with the Tanzania People?s Defence Force in Uganda between 1979 and 1980 during the Tanzania-Uganda War. During this period he was in the National Service.
Mallumbo is married to Marra Choggo and together they have five children ? three boys and two girls.
