ELCT mourns the death of Pastor Thomas Musa The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) mourns the death of Pastor Thomas Musa who was buried at Kinampanda in Iramba District, Singida Region on 5th February 2013 suffering from asthma. Rev. Musa was retired President of the Central Synod now the Central Diocese of ELCT from 1964 up to June 1971.
Rev. Thomas Musa was born at Mukonkontena Uwanza village Iramba District in Singida Region, on 6th December 1927 and was baptized on 12th August 1929 at Ruruma Parish. He attended Primary and Middle Schools from 1940 to 1948 and completed Class X at Alliance Secondary School in Dodoma. He served as Clerk to the Head of Augustana Mission in Central Synod for two years between 1952 and 1954 before joining the Lutheran Theological College Makumira (LTCM - known now as Tumaini University Makumira). He studied for a Certificate course 1955 1957 at the LTCM and he joined a special programme organised by the All Africa Lutheran Churches at a Theological Seminary in Marangu for a Diploma in Theology 1960 - 1963. Rev. Thomas Musa obtained two degrees of Bachelor of Divinity (BD) Degree 1963 and Master of Divinity Degree 1963 from the Augustana Theological Seminary, Rock Island in the United States of America. Rev.
Musa was ordained pastor at Kiomboi Lutheran Parish in 1963 and served
as parish pastor. Even after retiring from active service in his diocese, Rev Musa was employed part time in various duties one of them being in 2007 when he was appointed to chair the planning team for the proposed Singida University College as well as tutor at Kiomboi Seminary. To cap it all, he received a certificate for his outstanding performance, an honour bestowed to him by the diocese on 12 Dec 2010 at the inauguration of jubilee year to mark the 100th anniversary since the Gospel was introduced in the diocese in 1911.
