Press Release
Music gala at Makumira to usher in the ELCT jubilee All is set for Tumaini University Makumira (TUMA) to receive guests from outside and inside the country who will convene for the climax of celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT). On Saturday 22 June 2013 there will be a music gala at Makumira on the eve of the jubilee climax in which various choir groups comprising 320 people will take part in turn to sing songs of praise and celebration. The Vice Chancellor of TUMA, Rev. Professor Joseph Parsalaw, said Makumira community was elated having been chosen to host the jubilee celebrations; saying that Makumira was privileged to fulfill the vision of the church and pleased to play host to historic events such as the climax of the jubilee celebrations. However, he also added that since Makumira is located at Usa River, it is also working in close collaboration with the ELCT Head Office in Arusha. Professor Parsalaw said that one of the major products of the unity of the ELCT, which was formed as one Lutheran Church in 1963 from a group of independent Lutheran churches, was that of the "common work" institutions such as Makumira. The ELCT is a unity which came about as a union of seven churches which themselves were the result of Lutheran mission work begun more than 125 years ago. The theme of the jubilee celebrations is: All may be one, John 17: 21. ================================================== |
