Sendoro to be consecrated the first Bishop of Mwanga Diocese in November

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) has a new Diocese following the election of leaders of Mwanga Diocese at its first General Assembly held at Mwanga on 14 July 2016. The new diocese is formed after dividing Pare Diocese into two. Mwanga Diocese covers Mwanga District in Kilimanjaro Region.

Pastor Chediel Elinaza Sendoro was elected to become the Bishop and Pastor Timothy Msangi who was Assistant to the Bishop in Pare Diocese becomes the Assistant Bishop in Mwanga Diocese. The consecration of the leaders and installation of the new diocese will take place on the 6th November 2016.


Rev. Chediel Elinaza Sendoro was elected to
become the first Bishop of Mwanga Diocese.

Born in Dar es Salaam on the 1st of May 1970, Rev. Sendoro was ordained to become a Pastor on 3 September 2006 after graduating at Tumaini University Makumira (TUMA) where he studied between 2001 na 2008. During that time he was awarded Bachelor of Divinity Degree and then Master in Theology Degree.

After being ordained he worked as a pastor with the Eastern and Coastal Diocese Mission and Evangelism Department 2006 - 2010 and from 2011 to 2012 he became the Deputy General Secretary for Mission and Evangelism in the Diocese.

Earlier Rev. Sendoro worked with the Christian Council of Tanzania (CCT) 1993 – 2000 as an Accounts Clerk, Assistant Accountant and Accountant having completed his studies at the Dar es Salaam School of Accountancy 1992-1993 and qualified NBAA (National Board of Accountants and Auditors) Examinations 1993-1995. He took part in the National Service training for one year after completing his ‘A’ Levels Secondary School education in 1991.

Pastor Sendoro is married to Marystella S. Kilato and together they are blessed with two children a girl and boy.

He has been pursuing Doctorate Degree in Theology (ThD) with the Åbo Akademi University in Turku, Finland from 2012 todate.

Before his new appointment, Rev. Chediel Sendoro was working with the United Evangelical Mission (UEM) as Deputy Executive Secretary for Africa based in Dar es Salaam between 2013 to July 2016 when he was elected to become a bishop.

Pastor Timothy Jonas Msangi was born on 19 July 1971 at Usangi Hospital in Mwanga District and was ordained to become a pastor on 27 October 2002 at Mchali Parish.



Rev. Timothy Msangi was elected to become the
Assistant to the Bishop of Mwanga Diocese.

Rev Msangi attended Karambacha Primary School in Mwanga District 1988 – 1991; took his “O” Levels at the ELCT Lutheran Junior Seminary in Morogoro and continued with “A” Levels in the same school from 1992 to 1993.

He enrolled at Makumira from 1997 for a Bachelor of Divinity Degree. After his graduation in 2002 he was ordained as pastor and he rejoined the college 2006 -2008 for a Masters in Theology Degree.

Between 2002 and 2006 he was Pastor-in-charge of Mcheni Parish (Ugweno), Mwanga District and from 2008 to 2010 served at Mbaga Parish in Same District. He served in the positon of Assistant to the Bishop in Pare Diocese in 2010 and again 2014 to 14 July 2016 when he receive the call to serve as assistant Bishop in Mwanga Diocese.

Rev Msangi is married to Nimef Mary Mganga and together they are blessed with three children (girls).

Mwanga Diocese brings to 25 the number ELCT Dioceses.
