The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) joins other
churches all over the world in commemoration of the 500
years of Church Reformation to take place in October 2017.
The Church Reformation that started in Germany by Martin Luther
in 1517 prompted the creation of the Lutheran Church globally.
The ELCT Secretary General, Mr. Brighton Killewa, has announced
the The Reformation Week programme to start on October
1st whereby a number of activities will take place in all ELCT
parishes, institutions, dioceses and at the national level.
The activities to be done at parish, diocese and church levels
include: conducting workshops; launching various pieces of literature;
tree planting; church services; choir festivals and doing charity
work including visiting the sick; cleaning up of the environment
and blood donation.
Tree planting is a symbolic gesture taking place in all Lutheran
churches showing the world wide influence and significance of
the reformation that started in Gemany 500 years ago.
The ELCT has prepared a special song to be sung by all choirs
in all parishes and its institutions during the Reformation Week
in October.
At the national level, the church plans to have a three-day commemoration
to be held at Tumaini University Makumira whereby at least 1,000
