By Elizabeth Lobulu

The KCMC Consulting Hospital in Moshi, Tanzania, has introduced cancer treatment bringing to three the number of hospitals offering cancer treatment in the country following in the footsteps of the National Cancer Institute – Ocean Road in Dar es Salaam and Bugando Consulting Hospitali in Mwanza.

Speaking in Arusha on 13 March 2017, the Executive Director of KCMC, Dr. Gileard Masenga, during a brief ceremony to dedicate a vehicle given by the ELCT to the Cancer Care Insititute at KCMC, said between 8 December and February this year at least 400 cancer patients received treatment at the centre.

The institute has three phases –phase one entailed the construction of two buildings – the first one is a clinic and the other building where chemotherapy is offered. The second phase involves the construction of a 100 bed ward and a hostel to cater to the needs of the relatives who are assisting in-patients. The third phase involves radio therapy treatment. Dr. Masenga took the opportunity to thank the assistance given to KCMC by their partners in the United States
