Tumaini University

Tumaini University was founded by the ELCT in 1996. The establishment of the University follows the decision of the government of Tanzania to liberalize the education sector and subsequent enactment of the Education (Amendment) Act No. 10 of 1995. The University is recognized by the Higher Education Accreditation Council

Mission
The mission of the university is to engage its faculties and students in studies of higher learning committed to the pursuit of truth through scientific research and inquiries. Its main objective is to promote higher education in its broadest sense delving into fact-finding under the guidance of and in obedience to the Word of God.

The university administrative headquarters are located in the premises of the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College, about 8 kilometers north of Moshi Municipality, Kilimanjaro region.

Makumira University College (MUCO)

MUCO is the oldest of the Tumaini University campuses. Its history goes back to 1947 when Lutheran mission and churches began theological training for the ministry in Tanzania. A campus was opened for theological training in 1948.

MUCO is one of the largest theological seminaries in Africa, located in the Arusha region in the north of Tanzania, near Usa River.

Since its inception, the college has served as an international and ecumenical faculty receiving students not only from Tanzania and East Africa, but also from West and Central Africa, America, Europe and the Middle East. With 35,000 volumes, the college library is one of the largest theological libraries in Africa.

Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College (KCMCo)

KCMCo is located at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) in Moshi Town, Kilimanjaro Region, 8 kilometers from the town centre.

Since its inception in 1971 as a referral and teaching hospital, KCMC has made big strides toward fulfilling its teaching function in particular.

The college now has 16 schools of allied health sciences. KCMC staff members have produced well over 500 scientific papers and other publications in various health related issues.

KCMCo is located at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) in Moshi Town, Kilimanjaro Region, 8 kilometers from the town centre. Iringa University College (IUCO)

The youngest of the three constituent colleges of Tumaini University, Iringa University College is the successor of the former Lutheran college at Iringa which was opened in 1993.

IUCO is located on the north edge of the town of Iringa in the southern highlands region of Tanzania.

Apart from undertaking various steps in building up academic excellence, such as faculty development programs and recruitment efforts, the college has completed construction of a library for 70,000 volumes. The college is also building its capability for computer facilities.

The Chancellor of Tumaini University is the Presiding Bishop of ELCT, Dr. Samson Mushemba. The Vice Chancellor is Professor John F. Shao. Its temporary Headquarters is at the KCMC.
